Project Runway Inspired Unconventional Materials Project

Project Runway Inspired

Unconventional Materials Project

I love Project Runway and many of my students are fashion obsessed. This coincidence gave me the idea of creating an Unconventional Materials Project. If you have never seen this amazing show let me briefly describe it to you.

Each week competitors are given a challenge to create an outfit based on that week's particular theme or materials.

As a class we watched 2 different unconventional challenges.

In Season 8, we watched the designers create a line out of hard and soft materials from the flower shop and hardware store.

and in Season 11 we saw contestants create looks entirely out of materials from a party store.

For example, this dress is made 100% out of cocktail napkins.

And now it is our turn.

First we started sketching, just like the designers.

We have students using everything from candy to cds to create their looks.

Check back in the coming weeks to see our final projects!

More to come!!!!

Keith Haring- Drawing the Line- Sub Plan

Keith Haring

Drawing the Line

Sometimes you need a sub plan. Drawing the Line is a video about Keith Haring, his imagery, and how he began making his subway illustrations.

This is the perfect 30 minute video; long enough to take up a good chunk of class time, short enough to keep student's interests.

School Benefit

Every year our school holds a benefit to support our young women's dreams at the Chicago Cultural Center

and

all proceeds go towards scholarships for our girls!

My class is in charge of the center pieces as well as some of the auction items. Take a look and see what we have in the works!
